Optic Pit is a rare abnormality of the papilla, of unknown etiopathogenesis, which often presents with serous retinal detachment in the macular area and with schisis-like retinal abnormalities and there appears to be communication between the retina and the pit.<\/p>\n

To date, the low incidence and complexity of this pathology have not made it possible to select an optimal treatment.<\/p>\n

A novel surgical approach allowed anatomical and functional recovery of the retina of these patients: vitrectomy and gas tamponade, which are essential for drainage of subretinal fluid through the pit; sealing the pit with a scleral piece to prevent liquid from entering the retina.<\/p>\n

In view of the results obtained, presented in this atlas and in the articles indicated below, the technique used here is, in our opinion, more effective in certain cases of Optic Pit.<\/p>\n
